Medium recently released their first full length movie 'Sorry You Feel That Way'. The crew took to the US of A in search of anything they can slap some boards on. With some night prowling, pow riding and cheese wedges, the team put together something they should be proud of. Reuben Reigler is medium's founder, CEO, art director, filmer and takes the reigns in the editing chair. I went to the pub to sink a couple pints and watch some footy last Friday night. I figured what better time to slide into Reuben's DMs and question him on the new movie. I know he had better things to do with his Saturday evening but he was kind enough to put the thumbs to work.
Hey bae, how you doing? Good thanks hotstuff, how are you?
I’m good man, couple beers at the pub. Send a selfie! I'm about to go film another ep of no sunscreen.
No way! No sunscreen is so Fkn good. Am I holding you up? Not at all, I got nothing but time baby.
How is life after the video?
Pretty chill dude, really nice to not have to think about editing or planning a premier. Until next year… Just trying to enjoy myself and ride as much as possible. It’s been crazy how much good feedback i've been getting. So happy to hear how much people have enjoyed the project and it’s extremely inspiring to make another
It was your first time in the USA right? Did you see some wild stuff? I actually used to go a lot when I was younger to visit my great uncle who lived in Arizona. I was like 15 and really into skating so I’d always have to stop in SF on the way and I’d see some pretty fucked shit. But first time snowboarding in the US yeah. Had some crazy encounters. Had the police pull guns on me within the first 2 weeks. Fully had my hands on my head and on my knees at gun point. Fun but scary place sometimes ahaha
Holy shit! They pulled guns and you were just filming? I was scoping a spot next to some train tracks at like 11pm, kinda had it coming tbh ahaha Once they heard the accent they were lovely.
The good old tourist get out of jail free card. So who is the smelliest on the crew?
That’s kinda a tough one luckily. We are all pretty hygienic but I gotta say after a long day in the van probably bset. But he did put us onto some pretty good deodorant over there so it’s sweet.
Who’s the dad of the crew?
Probably bset, he kinda did most of the accommodation booking ect. He’s Really good at travelling.
This is probably the biggest video you’ve worked on, what highs and lows did you go through putting it all together?
The highs were definitely just seeing the whole vision coming together. It was great once the video was finished and getting to step back and take a real look at the final product.
The lows were probably just anxiety of not knowing what people were gonna think, none of the boys had seen anything other than their own parts so I guess I was just very sceptical about some of my editing choices and just being hard on my own work.
I guess when I edit I get very in my own head. I have trouble with finding the positives in my work and just nitpick the bits I don’t like. And comparing myself to the editing in other videos ect but everyone does that.
Nah man that’s makes sense. You are always your own worst critic right. Keep doing you, you killed it! Thanks bro, appreciate it!
Update
Footy!
On a lighter note did you discover any new road snacks over there? Tyler stole a 3kg bag of beef jerky on our way from Minnesota to Utah and that really hit the spot. Nerd clusters. And the holiday servo mc rib. It’s just a boneless rib in a bun but it fucking slaps hard.
Did any of the crew happen to fall in love? 😉
Hahahah who put you up to this. Yessss it was me, I met a girl in Minnesota called Kamryn. Went on a date with her just for abit of fun but ended up falling pretty hard. She’s an absolute sweetheart and I can’t wait to see her again. Might have to secure myself a green card.
No snitch. Aww man that’s cute as hell, I hope it flourishes. I hope so too.
What’s the hardest part of filming?
Having to stand in the -25 cold and put up with all the “last try” “yeah this shot”. Nah it’s finding spots, dealing with the cold, the kick outs, each other. Loosing ur mind in the van. It’s all apart of it tho.
So any plans for another medium video? Yeh for sure, I won’t leak any info but we are gonna go twice as hard and make a project we are all proud to be apart of.
When are we doing medium x laced?
Whenever you’re ready. I’m waiting. The people need it.
Let’s talk!
Thanks for taking the time my g. I’m assuming you’re almost up there with Cam and the crew, can we cop another selfie?
Yeah baby laced represent ❤️
